About Cannes Film Festival
The Cannes Film Festival was founded in 1938 as France’s response to the Venice Film Festival in Italy. The initial event, originally named the International Film Festival, was canceled after its opening night when German troops invaded Poland at the outbreak of World War I. The festival was revived in 1949 and, along with Venice and Berlin, is currently one of Europe’s top three film festivals.
The festival is nearly entirely attended by film industry executives and the journalists. Even if you don’t get a ticket, you can still enjoy the electric atmosphere by watching the events on huge TV screens on the red carpet or attending cinema screenings on Cannes Beach.
